“Starting a new season with Fatima is always a challenge. Of course, I am hopeful that they say the same thing about us.  We knew going in that we would be facing a great deal of pressure and that they would shoot several three’s.  Last year in this game the two teams combined for 68 turnovers and 129 points. On the way to the bus we found out we would be missing Zoie Turner due to an injury, which would not help our depth.  We were very surprised to have the first half play out as it did. We had some first game jitters and turned the ball over and missed some shots that I think we’ll hit later in the season. It was back and forth throughout the game with Fatima hitting a three at the buzzer to take the lead. After halftime we had our best stretch of the game led by Payton, Carson and Kerrigan and took a 5-point lead. Regrettably, they answered with a run to take a lead they would never relinquish. The girls turned up the pressure in the fourth and we were shooting a 1 and 1 to cut the lead to five with 2:00 left. We ended up turning it over 25 times and in a game with this low scoring that was a deciding factor. We did a good job of getting to the line, but only hit at a 56% rate which I am confident that will improve.  The girls next game is the 4-5 matchup against Southern Boone at the conference tourney in Ashland.” ~ Scott Rowland, head coach of the School of the Osage High School Basketball Team.
