This was the final game in the Tri-County Conference Tournament and the Lady Indians were playing for the consolation trophy. We drew the four seed so we knew we would have our hands full. Both teams came out a little sluggish and there was not much scoring in the first quarter. We got all seven of our points from Liberty, but only were down a single point. The hope is that when Liberty gets going inside it will open up things for our outside shooters. On this night, Liberty scoring most of our points was going to be the norm. The second quarter saw Hallsville hit better from outside while we kept going inside to Liberty. She was going at a good enough rate to keep us in the game so that's where the girls kept getting the ball. Paige Luttrell came off the bench and hit two big FT's to keep us within six at the break. I felt that we were playing pretty well and that the shots would start falling. As it turns out they didn't and we were down by 10 going into the fourth quarter. Liberty continued to pace us, scoring 11 points in the third. I thought that Sara, Paige R., and Reese did a nice job of feeding the ball to Liberty and when she didn't score a basket she was getting fouled (7 for 10 in the third). In the fourth the girls mounted a furious comeback. Our defensive pressure got going and we forced some tough shots from Hallsville that we were able to rebound. Liberty scored 12 more in the fourth quarter and Sara hit a huge 3-pointer to get us into an extra frame. In that extra frame we struggled at the FT line, going 0 for 4. We were down three when Liberty scored with 7.2 seconds left. After a timeout, we came so very close to getting a five-second call under our own basket and almost drew an offensive foul at midcourt, but it wasn't to be and Hallsville knocked down 1 of 2 free throws for the final margin. This is one of those games that kind of feels like a win. To come back from 10 down shows the guts that I think these girls possess and to handle an end of game situation so well is almost better than I could hope for this early in the season. The biggest story from this one, for sure, was the night that Liberty had. She set the all-time single game scoring record for the Lady Indians with 42 points. She also grabbed 20 rebounds to go with it to post one of the most impressive stat lines I have ever seen. Sara Wolf also had an incredible night on the glass, tallying 15 to go with her 5 points.
