After several days off and one canceled game, the Lady Indians traveled to St. Elizabeth to play the Hornets.  It had been a week since we played and we had not shot the ball very well against Eugene. The first half was much of the same as we went 4 for 21 from the field. We also had some foul trouble to contend with as Liberty picked up two fouls and had to sit for many minutes in the first half. St. E had a definite size advantage as they started 6' 1" and 5' 11".  How we played defense against their bigs would be a key to our success or failure on the night. The first quarter was Sara's as she hit two three's and had eight in the quarter.  The second quarter almost proved to be our undoing as we only scored four points. The key was that we got good defensive minutes inside from Paige R., Scout Mayer, and Sara Wolf. St. E only scored seven, but we were down eight at the break. As slow scoring as we were in the first half, we were the opposite in the second. The girls really came out aggressively and it paid off. Our press bothered St. E and the defense inside of Sara and Liberty along with a great run from Paige L. and Reese getting all kinds of deflections and steals really keyed our defense as the girls only allowed five in the quarter while scoring 20. The offensive attack was led by Liberty inside as she scored eight points and got to the FT line six times and from the outside by Reese Good. She hit two huge threes in transition to propel us to a great quarter.  Going from down eight to up seven put us in the right frame of mind to close it out in the fourth.  The girls knocked down their FT's when the fouling started and we held on for a 53-38 victory.  This was a very good win for us over a well-coached, solid St. E team. I love the fight that this group showed in coming back from a good-sized deficit on an opponents floor. We also played without four of the ten varsity players that we figured on having. Hopefully, over the break we will start to get people back and we can build from there.
