We had our first game in a couple of weeks when local rival Iberia came to Osage on January 3rd. Of the two teams, Iberia started off stronger. We were very focused on their inside game and ended up yielding three 3-pointers in the first quarter. Syd Riley answered back with two of her own, but we were still down by three at the end of one. The second quarter saw our girls play a little more like we hoped we would. We had four scorers led by six from Liberty Gamm and four off the bench from Ella DeMott. The girls got a a couple stops toward the end of the quarter and taking a three point lead at halftime was a confidence booster. The third quarter saw the girls really get out and run as well as we have all year. We had some foul trouble on Liberty and others stepped up in her place to get us going. Sara Wolf wasn't scoring, but she was grabbing lots of rebounds and starting our fast break by dribble or by deep passing. We hit Syd on a couple of runouts and Alisa Boswell came off the bench to score four at the girls outscored Iberia 17-7 to take a 13-point lead going into the fourth. This quarter saw the girls quickly get the lead out to 18 and after that we mostly traded baskets with Iberia the rest of the way. Sara had a quarter for the ages, scoring 17 points to pace us to a 16-point victory. I was pleased with the way the girls handled the layoff/rough first quarter. We got a career-high 15 from Syd and 19 from Sara, along with 16 from Liberty. Having three in double figure scoring makes us a difficult out for any team. Getting a contribution like we did of six points from Ella and four from Alisa is hopefully a sign of good things to come.
