After nearly two weeks off because of the weather, the Lady Indians traveled to Blair Oaks on 1/27. It was our first competition since Liberty went down with an injury, so we were interested to see how we handled this. Many times this year our games have been a tale of two halves. This game was a tale of one quarter. Both teams came out not shooting well in the first half and I was so pleased with our patience on offense and defense. The girls didn't take tough shots, we used several sides of the floor until a good look presented itself. We didn't shoot well, but that happens. Our strong defense has to be there every night. We knew going in, that our lack of size would be an issue, but we made up for it by hitting three three's in the first quarter. We got two from Sara and one from Syd and our defense only gave up four points. This put us up seven after the first and I think we felt really good about that. The second quarter continued the trend, but the offense we got was a three from Reese and a bucket inside from Ella. Even though 16-10 sounds more like a football halftime score, we very excited to be up six on a good team like Blair Oaks. The third quarter would prove to be our undoing. A big reason for that was our nine turnovers. We had trouble against their press, which happens, but we also had trouble just making good passes in the half court as well. They outscored us by 20 in that quarter and were up 14 going into the fourth. They got up as many as 18 before we made a run to cut it to 10 with the ball, but we missed a couple chances to get it to single digits and then played even with the last couple of minutes. Reese and Sara keyed the comeback with two three's each in the fourth. Hopefully, we learned from this game and can apply those lessons going forward through the rest of the season.
